Microsoft Office provides updates regularly mainly to fix security bugs. Of course, regular Windows updates also mean your system will have better stability and all the latest features.
Normally, when there is a new update available, Windows notifies you of the same and depending on your system’s settings, they will be installed automatically or you may have to install them manually.
What does it mean when you’re offered the same Windows update repeatedly?

Solution 1: Check the update history for errors
- In Windows 10, go to Start menu > Settings > Update & Security
- Select Windows Update
- Then click on the Update History link

- Right-click on the update that has a ‘Failed’ status and select ‘View Details’. If you see any errors here, please examine it further using the Microsoft’ error code list.
Solution 2: Use Windows Updates Troubleshooter
- Again, go to the Start menu > Settings > Update & Security
- Select Troubleshoot and click Windows update below ‘Get up and running’
- Click Run the Troubleshooter
Once the troubleshooting process is complete; if you are provided with a fix, select ‘Apply this fix’. Once the fix is applied, restart your system and reinstall the updates again.
Solution 3: Run SFC Scan
SFC is short for System File Checker that scans the system for corrupt system files and repair/replace them. This helps in cases when your system isn’t able to detect the updates even though it’s installed correctly. To run SFC,
- Click on Windows + X to open the menu and select Command Prompt (Admin)
- In the Command Prompt, type ‘SFC /scannow’ and hit Enter
Once the scan completes, corrupt system files will be replaced to resolve the corruption issue. Now restart your system and see if the ‘repeating updates’ issue is resolved. If not, it indicates other problems with your system and you would need to reinstall Windows entirely to resolve it.
