A factory reset is restoring your system to its original manufacturer settings by erasing all the data on the system. 1. Clear your hard drive

  • Click Apple icon on top-left corner of the screen and select Restart
  • Press and hold Command +R when grey screen appears during boot process.
  • Select a Wi-Fi network if this option is available.
  • Select Disk Utility.
  • Select your hard drive from the list and click on Erase.
  • Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in the new window.
  • Select disk or volume in list from the left.
  • Specify a format and name.
  • To prevent the recovery of disk’s erased data, click Security Options.
  • Click Erase.
  • Type in a new name for the hard drive.
  • Click Erase to wipe clear your hard drive.

2. Reinstall the Operating System

  • Once your hard drive is wiped, click on Disk Utility and then select Quit Disk Utility.
  • Click on Continue to reinstall Mac OS X.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to complete reinstallation of the OS.

Your system will reboot with installation of Mac OS X with factory settings. You can reinstall all applications and sync all your accounts.
