How to Fix SD Card When it is Corrupted

Before going for major methods, follow the below given tricks, if any of these is worked then copy and paste your data to other location then you can repair the card.

  • Insert the memory card to all ports of system and check whether you can access the data from it
  • Connect the card to some other system and check whether you can access it
  • Reinstall the driver

If none of these helped you to access your card then you will have to  fix the corrupted SD card using these methods:

Method 1: Change Drive Letter

  • Connect your memory card to a system
  • Then, right Click on My Computer/ This PC. From the drop-down list, click on Manage
  • Then, select Disk Management from the left side and wait until Windows load the Virtual disk service.
  • Right click on your card and click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
  • Click the drive letter (it will turn blue) and then hit Change.
  • Choose the drive letter from the drop-down list and press OK.

Method 2: Repair damaged SD card using CMD

Note: In this method, Windows will forcefully format the corrupted card, so if the data on your card is important then make use of Remo Recover software and extract your data from the damaged card, save it to any preferred location then continue with this process.

  • Connect the damaged SD card to your computer.
  • On the Start button, Right Click and select Command Prompt (Admin) from the list
  • Then CMD window will open, in that type diskpart and hit Enter.
  • Type List disk and click Enter. Then, a list of all the storage devices connected to the computer will be displayed.
  • Then, type select disk <the number of your disk>and Enter.
  • In that, type clean and hit Enter.
  • Then, type create partition primary and press Enter.
  • Type active and Enter, then type select partition 1.
  • Lastly, type format fs=fat32and press Enter.

Method 3: Repair using Windows Explorer

  • Go to My Computer or This PC.
  • Pick the corrupted card and right click on it.
  • From the drop down menu, click Format
  • Hit Restore Device Defaults from the popup
  • Then, tap Start to initiate the format process. Uncheck the Quick format option if you want the deep scan the drive/card for errors.
  • Hit OK in the next dialog box and you will have your error free SD card.
