Here’s How to Backup Windows 10 Files?
This often happens that, one or the other day user may lose his or her import files while working on Windows 10 system. So it is required to have a backup of each file on Windows 10. So here we come up with a solution to ignore file loss from Windows 10 by creating backups.
To proceed with backup creation method, you must need:
- External Hard Drive
- NAS or another computer on your local network to serve as the backup location
Method 1:
File History to Backup Specific Files and Folders which change often:
File history is an awesome feature available in Windows 10 using which you can back up all the folders in your account or can choose specific folders to back up. Along with desktop, downloads, documents, pictures, music, images it can also backup your OneDrive folder. File history monitors folders for changes and automatically backup any files that have been modified recently. Using which you can easily recover deleted files windows 10 or even lost files from Windows 10.
Let us see how to set up and enable file history:
- Hit the Windows button and type “File History” The menu will bring up “File History settings” automatically; then click on it to open
- Then, go to Backup and press “Add a drive.”
- Then, choose the drive or network location you want to use for File History’s backups.
- Click on “More Options”
(In this option you can start a backup, change when your files are backed up and also duration to back up files, switching File History to different Folders, adding or excluding folder etc.)
- Click on Backup up Now to initialize first History Backup
Change the File History backup duration setting by following below tips:
- The “Forever” option will keep saving backups until your drive is full. In that situation, you have to either use another drive or clean the control panel manually. To clean space, you can go to
System > File > History > Advanced Settings
- If you select Until space is needed, then File History will automatically eliminate the old versions of the files it backs up when drive space is low.
Restore the File History Backup:
Control Panel > File History > Restore Personal Files
Then you are able to browse data and even preview the files before you hit the restore option.
Method 2:
Backup and Restore feature to backup Windows 10 files:
- Go to Windows button, click the Windows button and then type in “back and restore” to locate the tool
- Click on “Set up backup”
- Select the backup drive or click on Save on a network button to select the network share
- Next option is to select that backup folder to be selected by yourself using “Let me choose” option or you want Windows to do it. If you letting Windows choose then it will save the files to user folder on desktop, libraries and also create a system image.
- Click on “Save settings and run backup” option to run the first backup.
- To restore Windows from as system image, go to Settings > Update & Security> Recovery and restart your system in the advanced startup mode.
- To restore particular folder or files from the backup you can go to Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and Restore> Restore my files
